Yurii Land – Director of Strategic Accounts

Experient – RMPCMA Member since 2003

What have you found to be most beneficial being a member of RMPCMA?  When I first moved to Denver from Los Angeles in 2003 I didn’t know too many people in the Denver meetings industry.  RMPCMA gave me that opportunity to bond with a wonderful community of planners, CVB and hotel partners and suppliers who all support each other.  It was very beneficial serving on the board of the chapter for several years to strengthen my connections and be a resource for anyone who needed it.

What advice would you give to a person just entering this profession?  It is most important identify what you are most passionate about before you jump into various jobs in the industry.  Really take the time to do some soul searching and once you have found that passion,  go after it with intention.

How did you get in this business and what attracted you to this business?  I first got into the business of events back at Loyola Marymount University with my first college job working in Conferences and Events on campus back in 1992 through 1995.  I realized then there could be an interesting career ahead in the events industry.  I was exposed to various internal campus and external clients that would do meetings and events throughout our facilities such as hosting the practices and conferences of the 1994 World Cup Italian and Swedish Soccer teams as well as international and local groups. What attracted me the most was being in the “serving people” business and gratification of helping others.

What is your favorite winter or summer activity and why?  My favorite summer activity is playing tennis.  It is great exercise and a sport that I can play for many years to come.

How long have you lived in Colorado and what do you like most about living here?  I have lived in Colorado since 2003.  I mostly like the fact that there are so many outdoor activities to do all year round.  You can’t beat the great weather which allows me to do all the fun things there is to offer.

What is your favorite book (business and/or pleasure)?  What did you love about it?  One of my favorite books that read over the last few years is “Born a Crime, Stories from a South African Childhood” by Trevor Noah. I have never had a book make me laugh and be emotional so much.  I loved every part of it from start to finish walking through the various true stories of good and bad times he went through which were hilarious, dramatic, and deeply affecting.

What do you like to do in your spare time?  Besides spending time with my wife, 12 year old son and two dogs, in my spare time I like to play tennis, do weight and cardio training, play the bass guitar, read, make movies from various vacations, bike ride, go to movies, cook and go to new restaurants (I’m a big foodie!)

Favorite vacation destination and why?  We always love to go to Hawaii. We hop to different islands like Kauai, Maui and Oahu. I’ve also been to Lanai recently. It is the one place where I can totally feel disconnected and relax and enjoy the chilled out atmosphere, great food and wonderful people.
